Every computer needs to have proper protection when browsing the Internet. Due to this necessity, there are dozens of antivirus companies looking to sell individuals unique and original software solutions. Each of these companies tries to stick out in one way or another, giving itself a unique sell proposition to help entice buyers.
For VIPRE Antivirus 2014, the cool logo of a viper getting ready to strike looks pretty intimidating. On the surface, it appears that it must provide great protection again malware, because how could malware stand up against a deadly viper? Unfortunately, for VIPRE Antivirus, the intimidation of the viper simply does not match the performance of the software. Of course, when someone really wishes to examine an antivirus program accurately, the three key variables to consider are: price, protection and service.
Price
With an MSRP of $39.99, VIPRE Antivirus 2014 is on the more expensive end of antivirus software. There are certainly more expensive programs out there, but most of them include full security suites. On the other hand, VIPRE does something that other antivirus programs do not. In addition to a 10-license option for $59.99, it also offers a $79.99 license, which is good for the life of the computer. This means no renewal fee and could mean a much better price if your computer lasts.

Protection
For a program that leads with a snake as its logo, the protection offered is quite disappointing. The software can easily block older malware, but when combating newer threats, it performs with mixed results. The same is true for cleaning of malware, and often it is unable to clean the more advanced threats. Furthermore, the software has very poor anti-phishing technology, which is very important in the Internet age with the constant threat of online theft.
Service
Being produced by a new publisher, the service for VIPRE Antivirus 2014 is on par with competitors and the features offered are somewhat impressive. The “Social Watch” feature will help monitor your favorite social media for any potential threatening links. Also, the PC Explorer, history cleaner and secure deletion app all have their uses. The services may be good, but they simply are not great.
Overall Impression
In the end, users will find that there are better options out there. If you are one of those people who just got a new computer and intends to hold onto it for years to come, the lifetime subscription might offer you the protection that you need, but always be aware that threats could slip through. Should this happen, you will probably wish you had gotten a slightly more powerful program.
